It's been a while since I updated LJ with anything about what I've been up to. So I'm writing a quick catch-up post.

I've been on the waiting list all summer, for a TEKA fuel injector tuning device that's been shared between people on the V-Strom forum. It arrived this past week, so today I had three riders from the V-Strom forum over and we did a little tech day here. The TEKA hooks up to the bike's ECM, and you can adjust the fuel/air mixture at various levels. I had my bike TEKA-tuned at a shop, a couple years ago, and they set it way too rich. I'm hoping this new tune gives me back some of my gas mileage. After the others left, I washed and waxed the bike, and changed the oil, so now it's sitting out there all set to go.

On Thursday I went to a dermatologist about these zits that are driving me crazy. The doctor wants to biopsy the zit on my nose that won't heal. I go back for that in October.

Last weekend I went to the Sternwheeler Festival in Marietta Ohio with [livejournal.com profile] mistrtoad. We rode with Mike and Tina, who have matching VFRs, and with Russell, who spent part of the weekend carrying a passenger, Trish. David Ryder and his new girlfriend Carole were at the hotel but I only rode with them briefly. The fireworks were fabulous as usual, the weather was great and we found a lot of new pavement on some of our favorite twisty roads.

The weekend before that I went to Helvetia WV, to meet a group from the V-Strom forum. Tropical Strom Ernesto was predicted to bring a huge amount of rain into WV that weekend, so all but one other rider chose not to go. I had fun riding with Trevor, an Australian guy who lives in Washington DC. The predicted heavy rain turned out to be intermittent light rain and mist, no big deal.

I almost didn't get to go, because the V-Strom was puking coolant and I needed to replace the radiator cap, and Suzuki couldn't get their head out of their ass long enough to actually ship the darn thing. I didn't get to ride the V-Strom for three weeks, I just waited for the radiator cap. I was saved by S&G Import Auto Parts in Ann Arbor; they found me a car radiator cap that worked.

My sister, Anne, visited with her new baby. The baby's name is Elise. She was born in May. Her eyes are still blue but other than that I think she looks more like her dad, she has black hair and I bet her eyes will turn dark too. She's cute, but I'm not very good at making enthusiastic gaga noises over babies. They're all kind of alike to me. She'll be more interesting when she's bigger.

I'm losing weight. Last February when they did the reorg at work, things got a lot better, and I have been able to get lunch most days. I'm no longer surviving a screwed up work situation by drinking gallons of sugary caffeinated sodas and eating candy from my desk when what I really need is a meal. I feel like I'm eating more, because I'm eating actual food, much more frequently. My Aerostich actually fits me comfortably, and I can zip a great red dress that I haven't been able to wear in years. It's good.

Hey there, added you because you seemed interesting and well-written, plus I see you might know a thing or two about V-Stroms and they're the bike I've got my eye on right now. Just thought I'd let you know why I suddenly appeared!

I've been waiting for a couple of parts from Suzuki for a couple of months now--and for a 1993 model, I guess you can figure out what that's like. Fortunately, the parts aren't critical.

Love reading about your trips, and really want to get a bike that's big enough to tour with.

Hooray for losing weight! Getting rid of sugary sodas (I drink diet now), and not having snacky-type stuff at my desk made a HUGE difference for me. I also learned that if I have a larger meal at lunchtime and a smaller one at supper, my metabolism goes up.

After hearing about your problems with getting Suzuki parts, I think I'm glad I don't have one. I'd heard similar stories about older Yamahas, but I've had good experiences with Kawasaki and Honda.

And I've finally got the carbs in my bike jetted to the point where they're not spewing richness to the point of making your eyes water. Tis a good thing...

On that note, it's a beautiful day, and there are twisty roads a-beckoning. :-)

My neighbors are from the Marietta area, and when they got back last weekend, I was surprised to hear them say the fireworks weren't nearly as good as in past years...

Gotcha.

And, hey, by the way - way to go on the weight loss. I know it's not easy. I'm really struggling. Good on you!!
