Jan. 1st, 2004 12:43 pmYesterday I had to work 8am to 5pm instead of the usual 11am to 8pm because of the holiday. I could rant about this but I'll refrain.
thatguychuck showed up here about five minute before I got off work, on Grey Wolf, to pick up some things I am loaning him for his upcoming trip. (I am so jealous. He's got twelve days for the trip, and no destination planned other than "south") While he was here he got voice mail that the person who was going to put him up in Kentucky can't put him up after all, so we made arrangements for him to go to Dave Arkle's place near Louisville instead. Dave tried to get me to go there as well, and I was tempted, but I just can't. Ray and Sherry are coming up here today and I have to work tomorrow.
It didn't take much persuading for me to get Demon Frog out of the garage and ride out with him to New Years parties. The first party was at the home of Tom Jones, aka Shark. Shark is the only person from high school that I still see, but I'd never been to his house. It was a lively party. He had laid on a supply of plastic top hats with hat bands that said "Happy New Year!" and Chuck attached one to the top of his helmet for the ride to the next party, at Erik Kauppi's house. It looked suitably ridiculous and when we stopped at lights, people in cars were staring and laughing. :-)
The night was cold but clear, lots of stars visible even in the city. This is one of the things I love about riding in the winter; seeing the stars. I think the skies are clearer and the stars more dramatic, when it's freezing cold.
I left Chuck to spend the night at Erik's house; he was going to leave straight from there on his trip. I'm so jealous. He was in the hot tub when I left. Outside, the bike seat was covered in frost. I made my way home carefully, mindful that any puddles I found would be frozen and the roads would be full of drunks.
Chuck should be on his way south by now. Ray and Sherry will be here in an hour or so. I should go start the garage heaters. More later!
