Pfiff trike
May. 24th, 2019 12:34 pmPicked up the Pfiff trike last weekend. It is not an ebike yet; I am still working out the plans.
I have taken a couple test rides to see how it feels. I think this is going to work well for me.
But I cannot abide this coaster brake! I need a freewheel. Two reasons. One is that my left leg has no strength for kicking forward, which means that if the left pedal stops at top dead center I can't go forward (my left leg won't go that way) and I can't go backward (coaster brake) and the right can't help because it's at the bottom of the stroke, so I am stranded. The other is that I need to be able to back pedal, to get my feet arranged properly on the pedals.
My original plan was to keep the fancy rear hub and install a mid drive motor. But since the coaster brake is unbearable, I will need to replace the rear hub anyways, so I might as well get the hub motor.
Which means I need to install a rear derailleur system. I'm working through the choices now, and hope to order parts within the next few days.
