Saturday evening we were out in the Subaru in the rain, and got rear ended at a stop sign. Apparently Steve didn't accelerate out from the stop, quite as fast as the SUV behind us expected him to. I wonder if they even stopped at all? I hardly even realized we'd been hit; it sounded like something sliding around in the trunk.

This was by the A&W, a stone's throw from the police station so we didn't even call them, a cop was there 30 seconds after we turned on the flashers.

The car has $750 worth of damage. Since Michigan is a no-fault state our insurance pays it, not Mr Impatient's. But since the police report says we were rear ended, the insurance considers us "not at fault", so there's no deductible and the rates should not go up.

Mr Impatient was pretty upset though. He says he just got his car back after a prior accident.

Always a bummer when some bonehead damages your stuff :( Glad it was minor.

Funny, that 'just got it from the body shop' thing happened to me also. Ms. Speedypants pulled out of gas station in Jackson without looking, and managed to perfectly hook her Volvo's front fender onto the corner of my steel rear bumper on my truck. Wasn't so much as a scratch on my truck, but it pulled the entire front clip of the Volvo off with a crescendo of little plastic pop-rivets ripping. She was in tears, picked it up from the body shop the day before she said.

I had no real need or interest in calling the cops, but I did to protect myself. Ms. Speedypants waited a few minutes, and then freaked out - managed to stuff the front clip into the car with the window open, and drove off. When the cop showed up, we just shrugged at each other and went on our way.

Heh, there's that saying: If bad things keep happening to you, it's not them - it's you! Sounds like it may apply to the two Speedypants mentioned here. ;>
