I haven't posted in a while and I was starting to get into this mode where I can't post because there's too much to say. Rather than let that stop me I decided I should just start somewhere!

So... we recently had a power outage. On March 16 at around 3pm, the power went out. The city was sending emails during this time with info but of course we did not get them until after, because the power was out, duh. But Steve walked down to the fire station and inquired and found out that they were doing an emergency replacement of a transformer, in a substation a couple blocks away. We went over to look. There were a dozen tractor trailers there with huge equipment, a giant crane, and about 20 trucks and vans with extra workers. The whole area was swarming.

As the sun was setting, the power was still out. Most people here heat with natural gas but those natural gas furnaces use electric pumps and blowers and controllers, so without electricity the heat is off for most people including us. Our living room temperature had only dropped two degrees but in the night we knew it might go down faster. So we took advantage of the remaining daylight to install the four AA batteries needed to run the gas fireplace without power from the grid, and turned it on. And we knew our neighbor, Tina, would be much colder and also freaking out, so Steve went next door in the car to get her and bring her to our house. When he was gone I dug in the kitchen junk drawer and found a bunch of battery powered tea lights and set them up in the living room. They looked cool and I was looking forward to Tina's arrival; I thought she would enjoy them too. But just as she and Steve came in the door, the power came back on.

Call me weird but I relish this type of thing. It's a mini adventure. We have talked about getting a generator, but it would make me sad to miss the excitement of making do in these minor ways.

Good to hear from you! Literally on Monday I logged in here to see if perhaps notifications were getting grabbed by gmail spam filters because I hadn't seen anything in months. :)

We are doing very well, loving our life up here in the great white north. :)

Yep, sold the Ural in September to a kid from Detroit that talked his mom into coming up with a snowmobile trailer to get it. :) And then sold all my parts/upgrades/etc on sovietsteeds, made out well on all that.

It was a fun an interesting bike, but I don't miss it too much since we are very happy with the Valkyrie.
