Electric bikes and trikes
Jul. 6th, 2018 12:08 pmIt is really amazing how the electric bike industry is taking off. I see electric bikes go by the house every day, more kinds all the time. There is a great store near here, Human Electric Hybrid, which I have posted about before. And today I found a really great review site with lots of information about lots of machines, https://electricbikereview.com/. Who would have thought there would be so many choices?
I still love my Razor Ecosmart Metro. It squeezes through small spaces in the farmers market, it plays well on the sidewalk. The basket is perfect. My balance is good enough that I can ride it while Steve walks beside me because he doesn't mind walking a little faster. Riding with people who walk slower is more difficult, and so is stopping to chat with friends and neighbors. The worst symptom of MS is that really trivial stupid things like dabbing my toe down to balance at too-slow speeds, or holding the brake lever to not roll away at a stop, are SO tiring. So I am always looking at what is out there, for my next machine. Something with three wheels, but not too enormous.
On the review site I found this Liberty Trike: https://electricbikereview.com/liberty-trike/electric-tricycle/. It seems like it would tick the same boxes as the Razor, but it will also work better for this neighborhood stop and go or just stop stuff. Three wheels but not enormous, a locking brake, reverse gear, those are the boxes that need ticking and it has them. It looks like a lot of thought went into it. I think I may need one.

Date: 2018-08-13 12:50 pm (UTC)It arrived about two weeks ago. It has a little odometer on it and it tells me I have already put 50 miles on it. I have probably spent as much time sitting on it while parked, as I spent moving on it. I'm on it for an hour or more, most days. It is lots better than the Razor - and I was pretty happy with the Razor so that's saying something!
Steve has been riding the Razor sometimes and we have gone out farther than I usually did before. It's nice to own a second bike so we can both go similar speeds.

Lord knows no one with finances as totally screwed up as mine are has any right to advise anyone else on budgetary matters. It just seemed like quite the jump in price-of-entry, absent of other factors. If you're pleased, that's all that matters.)
