City trucks have been roaming the neighborhood today, along with the big roto-rooter truck. They are doing something with the drains again. Steve was out there and asked them what is going on. Well, it is a grease clog. And it turns out that one of the city guys noticed a brown river of gunk leading through the snow to one of the storm drains. It was grease, illegally dumped by a local pizza place and it was caught on footage from a neighboring business's security camera. The pizza place says they hired a contractor to clean their grease traps and the contractor did it. The city guy said he is going to charge them. I guess the contractor and the pizza place will be fighting over who pays the bill. And perhaps some fines.
I wonder if that contractor dumps huge whacks of grease into storm drains, often? Seems like they'd be in more trouble than just here.

Date: 2018-01-11 12:07 am (UTC)I never saw giant drain cleaning trucks in my old neighborhood. Which was a newer sub and had no restaurants. The public utility drama over there was always water mains breaking. They would go by with a loudspeaker yelling that they were turning off our water, and when it came back on our plumbing would make these amazing burping sounds. That never happens here. I think that sub's developer had cheaped out on the water supply infrastructure.
I suppose every place has its difficulties. :-)

(I hope you are doing well, and I'm sorry that I unknowingly "ruined" the greens at Thanksgiving. I had no idea that my dish was one of the few gluten-free items We just casually avoid wheat by habit as a weight loss practice.)
