Downed wire picked up

elizillaDTE arrived last night and fixed the downed wire. It was the supply line for a single house on the other side of the block, and they were the only ones out of service. The DTE guy said the wire was probably 80 years old, based on how crumbly the insulation was.
It's interesting to me, just how much maintenance the local infrastructure requires. People take it all for granted, but how many other 80 year old wires are there in this neighborhood? And how quickly would it all fall apart if no one did this stuff?
