elizilla: (s10 sidecar)

Turns out that all it takes to get a closer look at the whizzer, is to roll a few things onto the lawn. The whizzer rider saw the sidecars out front, and stopped to visit us.

His name is Dave. His bike is powered by a small Honda motor that mounts on the side of his rear rack. Not sure how many CCs; it is about the size of a weed whacker or chainsaw motor. It's a four stroke and runs very clean. Dave says it's "quiet" but I'd say that's a relative term. It's not loud enough to piss people off, but you wouldn't be carrying on a conversation with the bicyclist riding next to you. It drives the bike using friction; there's a roller that drops down onto the rear tire. The bike and motor together weigh about 70 lbs. The gas tank is tiny and the range on a tank is about 20 miles. I didn't find out how much it holds but it can't be much; the whole unit is smaller than a milk jug. He carries another half gallon of gas in a jerry can in a rack trunk. The kit cost about $200.

Is it this?

EDIT: No; I guess it wouldn't be. The one I found is a big ol' belt-drive, not a friction drive. Back to the search...
