One week ago we had two inches of snow. Today it was in the mid-70s without a cloud in the sky. We just returned from jauntering around town, Steve on foot and me on my motorized Razor scooter. We had dinner at the Hotel Hickman bbq, and watched the hordes of pedestrians and bicyclists swarming at the Dairy Queen. I bet that on any night when they get any business at all, the people who work the DQ never get a chance to breathe. If it's not pouring, there's a line to the street.

Rumor has it that funding has been sourced for the next batch of bicycle trails, which are supposed to connect Dexter, Chelsea, Stockbridge and Pinckney. The state owns the rail right-of-ways already. When those are done, this town will be even more of a recreational nexus.

Prescient of you to move there!

Does it have a book store and a hobby/comic store?

pssst. the plural is "rights-of-way". Like "attorneys general", and for similar reasons. :)

I am fortunate to be not far from the end of the Minuteman Bikeway and the Fitchburg Cutoff bike paths. They may or may not finish the Watertown Branch path in my lifetime. :-/

Around here, people sometimes object to rail-trails because they fear that people are going to loiter on them and it'll lead to noise and litter and petty crime. They're also concerned about the loss of backyard and rear-window privacy once the trail opens to the public.

Most of those objections are fading away, though, because the trails that have opened here have been a smashing success, and have brought few problems with them.

WOW. I'm amazed that the usually-questionable Michigan government managed to do something that cool.
