Win10

Last week I got a new Tiny PC. Copied all my things over, and got it working pretty much completely. Last night I let it upgrade to Win10. I figured now is the time to take that risk, since my old PC is still working on Win7 and can be reverted to with no trouble.

We shall see how it goes. It seems I can still post to LJ, at least. :-)

However, it has some atrocious default behaviour - like seeding updates onto the internet by default, so your bandwidth gets compromised when other people update... and it spools all sorts of information to Microsoft ...

Did you score one of those tiny HPs that were woot deal of the day last week. I was sad I missed that one.

The November update fiasco hammered one of my machines, but other than that 10 has been pretty solid. A little required registry tweaking to turn off the big brother stuff, otherwise very stable.

Server 2012 makes me want to hit myself in the head with a hammer though... :)

That is indeed what I got. Just the day before, I'd been looking at machines with similar specs for twice the price, and waffling on whether to pull the trigger. When this one came up it was exactly what I'd been looking for, so I jumped on it. Woot's shipping is usually super slow, so imagine my surprise when the FedEx truck dropped it off less than 24 hours later!

I'm trying to move my home office to the desk in the kitchen, so we can turn the current office back into a bedroom. That desk isn't big enough for a desktop box, so the tiny form factor is key. The rest of the office is still kind of like, "get a shovel" but I'm working on it.

Awesome, it was a heck of a deal. They sold out really quick, before I even saw the email. I've been waiting to find one cheap like that has has two display ports since I run two monitors on each of the machines at my desk. Any fan noise so far?

Good luck with the office move, that sounds... challenging.

There's a little fan noise - about the same as the desktop it is replacing, which was chosen with "quiet" as a goal.
