Fallen and can't get up
Aug. 12th, 2015 03:40 pmThe next door neighbor, Dee, just knocked on the door. Bob had fallen and couldn't get up. Steve isn't here and I'm about 1/3 of a useful person on a good day, but like I said to Dee, it's not like I have a bad back or bad knee or some other orthopedic problem that will be set back by this effort - I'm just weak. So let's see what we can do. So there we were: the tiny 80-something Dee with her two knee replacements, and me with my rollator, in the dirt on the hill outside their garage where the large 80-something Bob (with his two knee replacements and two fused vertibrae) was laying in the mud. We did it! We got him up. And he doesn't seem much the worse for wear, since he immediately wanted to continue digging.
His project is a plugged drain that takes the water from their driveway. He can snake the hose 20 feet down it, but the water doesn't drain out so it's blocked down there somewhere. He's trying to find it with his shovel. I think he needs to stop for the day. I suggested they can hire Juan and Roy to dig - they should be here soon to cut the grass and we will ask them when they get here.
Dee managed to coax Bob into the house. Hopefully he'll stay there for a while!
