Accessible house
Aug. 12th, 2015 10:45 amI haven't posted about this before now because I love my current house and the story is already getting overwhelmingly big to write in an LJ post. But we have decided to build an accessible house. We have bought a lot right here in the same neighborhood, we've got a verbal agreement with a contractor, and we're working on a design. It's going to have green features and big porches, and it's on higher ground.
I'm sad because I hate to leave this beautiful house. But I am struggling with all the stairs. It has gotten steadily worse.

Date: 2015-08-13 12:12 am (UTC)One thing that's standard in Europe that was rarely seen until disability features started being mandated in the US is door *handles* rather than knobs. I remember when I visited Germany at the age of 9 I thought that was complete genius and why don't we have these in the US? You can manipulate those with an elbow if you have an armful of Stuff, for instance. (The downside is that pets can manipulate them.)
