This week in the local paper, there's a great item in the police blotter:

Some children playing outdoors in a subdivision off North Territorial, were accosted by a silver-haired man in a black SUV who invited them to come closer. The children ran away, instead, and their parents called the police. Based on the description the police were able to locate the man in question. He was a local retiree selling books out of his vehicle.

We know he's harmless, but he doesn't apparently understand how to approach kids "safely" in modern society: through their parents.

It's unfortunate that people jump to the worst conclusion, though.
He should have parked and gotten out of the car to make it clear that he didn't want them to get *in* the car. Anyways, awkward all around.

Or just not bother. I mean, any child that would buy a $40 hardback book, is unlikely to be found playing outside. :-)
