Thwarting the squirrel
May. 11th, 2015 01:18 pmA squirrel has been spending several hours each day on the bird feeder. He jumps from the roof to get there. Over the weekend we moved the bird feeder about four feet farther away from the house. He can't jump to it anymore.
Waiting for his next trick.
The deer are less easily thwarted. Their hoof prints are everywhere in the yard, and the flower bed that should have contained tulips remains ragged and bare of flowers. Fortunately they don't seem to think the newly planted astilbe and laurel plants are tasty. They have stomped on a few of them, but they don't eat them, and the plants that survive trampling might bloom someday.
Steve just came in and reported that the wisteria he planted yesterday has already grown a foot. Perhaps it will reach up and strangle any deer that tries to eat it.
