Out of gas?
Oct. 14th, 2004 11:21 pmTonight I went to the gas station to fill up my new truck before they raise the prices for the weekend. I don't expect to take it anywhere, but after dealing with a couple of rounds of rotted gas tanks, in bikes and in my old truck, I am trying to buy gas earlier and keep the tank mostly full most of the time, stave off such problems.
Anyway, I was filling the tank on my truck and all was pretty normal, until I got to about 12 gallons, and then the pump started running slower, and slower, and slower, and finally it stopped. The guy on the other side of the pump had the same problem. He went in to see what was happening, and found out that the gas station was out of gas. Run dry. Holy shades of the 70s. Remember all the talk about the Short Run and the Long Run? This could get ugly.
I hope I didn't just fill my new truck's gas tank with horrible crudded up gasoline that will make it run badly.

Date: 2004-10-15 03:47 am (UTC)I've found a station or two that's been out of gas around here (greater Boston) for a day or so recently, but I'm sure that's something that happens from time to time no matter what the state of the gasoline market.

Date: 2004-10-15 05:00 am (UTC)The only first hand experience I've ever had of a gas station with no gas, was when I worked in a gas station and we had a fire. That was a whole different kind of scary.

Date: 2004-10-15 01:25 pm (UTC)The best locations I have found are the cluster of stations near Carpenter and Packard in AA/Ypsi, and the Pilot at Baker Rd & I-94. Yes, at various times this summer, I was seeing a lot of different parts of the city.

Date: 2004-10-15 01:27 pm (UTC)The station being out of gas probably is because it is a small, privately owned station, and it has more to do with that owner's cash flow and bill-payment routine than it does with any regional gas shortage. IMO as a bookkeeper.
