Today I bought some inline skates. They're nice. I went out and skated clumsily around my neighborhood. I didn't fall down. I probably covered about a mile. I could have gone farther but I don't want to make myself too sore. Maybe tomorrow I will go again.

After my skating expedition I went to pick up chinese food, and on the way there I saw a huge column of smoke. WTF? From where I was it looked like the fire was at EMU. I decided to go see what was burning. Turned out the fire was farther away than it looked. It was the Yankee Air Museum, at Willow Run Airport. I parked by the fence and looked across the airport at it. The flames were at least 60 or 70 feet high and the place was surrounded by teeny tiny little fire trucks that could not control the fire. While I watched, something in there blew up and the flames got even higher. Very bad. RIP many nifty airplanes.

Yeah, terrible... [livejournal.com profile] bighoward says they got the B-17 and the B-25 out, and at least one other plane, plus everything outside was okay. Everything upstairs was destroyed, though, and they're planning to rebuild. I'm thinking of donating my WW2 patch collection.

Thanks for the explanation. I was in downtown Ypsi looking for Bombadill's Saturday evening and saw the huge column of smoke, and wondered what the heck it was. Sad to hear many nifty planes were lost. :-(

Thanks for the tip about Bombadill's - nice little place. :)
