Today was a good day. I actually got the bike out for a little while. The thermometer at Arborland Mall said it was 30 degrees, but the sun was shining and the roads were dry. I bundled up, and wore my electric jacket and electric gloves, and I was actually pretty comfortable out there.

I rode around for an hour or so, tried to avoid the piles of road salt. Then I stopped by Tammy and Eric's party. I got to see their new place. It's beautiful! The cohousing thing is really neat. If I hadn't hooked up with Michael and bought this house long since, I'd be giving it a serious look.

After a while, it started to get cloudy, and in less than an hour I knew it would get dark, and with the dark comes a deeper cold. So I said goodbye to the folks at the party, and headed for home. I got the bottle of Sta-Bil and went out to the gas station, where I topped up the tank and put the fuel stabilizer in. Then I came home and switched vehicles.

I drove the truck to Lowes, where I bought a new humidifier to replace the one that stopped working this week.

While I was there I spent some time looking at the various kinds of heaters and thinking about whether they might work well to heat the garage. Considering how impossible it's been to find an electrician who is willing to take on this small job, I despair of ever having enough electrical service out there to power an electric heater. But I really don't want to deal with exhaust venting and natural gas piping, either. Lowes had a freestanding portable kerosene heater meant for indoor use, that was supposed to able to heat 1000 square feet. The garage is only 400 square feet, but with the cement floor and the less than great insulation, that might be just the thing. OTOH, I'm afraid it would smell bad, and it would take up floor space I can ill spare. There are also ventless gas heaters that mount on the wall, but that gets back into the whole natural gas piping thing. Still, just one small gas line, it might be manageable. In the end, though, I decided to put off a decision until I finish the electrical and get the insulation up.

After I got the new humidifier set up and running, I went over to Joe and Lisa's party. Saw a number of people there that I only rarely see. Also had two instances of small world syndrome; one of my neighbors was there, and one of Michael's coworkers. Kristen Gibbs had the most news: a new architect's license, a new husband and a new house, just in the last month. Wow!

My new paramour (lj user=redhatmel) and I spied you heading westbound on Jackson Ave while we were eastbound on Saturday afternoon. I squealed and pointed you out, but since she was driving, the moment was lost.

Envious of you, I am, for getting all this riding in. Alas, I have not gotten 'Angel out since I rode her to her new home in my garage, and she desperately needs some winterizing. I need to go pick up a new bottle of Sta-Bil and take the battery out for the tender...

So much for my ideas of being an all-weather rider...

Glad you like it. :) I recall fondly speaking with you and other fen about creating something rather like cohousing, a big common house with littler houses scattered on the periphery, back before I'd heard of cohousing.

Feel free to stop by to visit anytime - I'm in #35, just across the plaza to the south from [livejournal.com profile] erikted, [livejournal.com profile] tammylc, and [livejournal.com profile] eviljohn. :)

P.S. About the electrician, I need to check with Linda my electrician friend again - she doesn't do home installs herself, but she mentioned a few others who might, and I forgot to write them down. Bah. :-( I'll find out & email you.
