This morning there is a big military truck parked on our corner. It is carrying a smaller military vehicle with caterpillar treads in place of rear wheels, and two cheerful suburban guys in fatigues. The trucks are military surplus from WW2. They are parked there to unload and then they are going to put them in the library parking lot. Because today is Big Truck Day at the public library. The library fills their parking lot with various kinds of working vehicles, and lets the kids sit in them. Firetrucks, bucket trucks, and antique military vehicles.

So we can expect our neighborhood to fill up. After the two annual parades, Big Truck Day is the biggest day of the year here. We'll have to roll the motorcycles out, for the delectation of the little kids who will be streaming by. While refraining from blocking any of the on-shoulder parking, because the library lot is full of trucks and the harried parents will need those street parking spots. :-)

They are getting a perfect day for it. Sunny and 70 degrees.

I just saw a bucket truck and a huge bulldozer roll by. The show is coming together!

This week in the local paper, there's a great item in the police blotter:

Some children playing outdoors in a subdivision off North Territorial, were accosted by a silver-haired man in a black SUV who invited them to come closer. The children ran away, instead, and their parents called the police. Based on the description the police were able to locate the man in question. He was a local retiree selling books out of his vehicle.

Yay!

Hooray for marriage equality! I wish I wasn't stuck at work, because I bet there's a heck of a party going on down at the county clerk's office.
