Nov. 16th, 2004 03:39 pmCleaning a deep fryer large enough to fry a turkey, is a messy, messy job. I strained the oil through a colander, since I didn't have any cheesecloth. Lots of crud got through, but I suppose straining it a second time as it's poured from the jug, will be easier than it would have been to strain it once on the way into the jug. It was hard to pour the oil through the strainer by myself. Oil got on my shoes so I left them at the door, I'll figure out how to clean them later.
In the kitchen, I was glad of my new faucet with the sprayer, as I rinsed as much of the remaining grease and crud as possible. It was still slimy as hell, so I figured out how to remove the top rack of my dishwasher, and stuffed all the parts in there. I'm now running it on pots and pans cycle with as much dish soap as the dispenser will hold. I doubt it will be clean when it comes out, but if it's at least somewhat de-slimed, maybe I'll be able to finish cleaning it without getting any more fryer grease on the floor or the walls.
I suppose it beats getting up at 6am to cook the turkey, and it sure did turn out well cooked this way. But the cleanup is a hell of a job!
