Thanksgiving ride
Nov. 26th, 2012 09:41 amWoke up last Wednesday morning with a cold, which bummed me out because I wanted to spend the holiday weekend getting one last motorcycle trip in before winter closed in. Thursday I felt a bit better and decided to go anyway, so I left Friday morning. Spent Friday and Saturday night at the Lafayette, in Marietta OH. It was a cold ride south on Friday but I had high hopes for a nice Saturday. And the Lafayette was amazingly warm, almost sauna-like, which felt great, and my cold receded almost completely. Unfortunately on Saturday the snow was blowing, though not sticking, and Saturday's ride was short. It was reminiscent of many SMEs (Sab Mag East, my motorcycle forum's rides) in the days before saner heads prevailed, when we used to have an Ohio event in April. But Sunday? Sunday was lovely. Still cold, but electric heated gear mostly takes care of that, and the sun came out. The leaves are down so the sight lines were good, and the traffic was light on the backroads, as usual. I wished I could stay another night, or even stay a little later, but the ride home would be cold once it got dark. The electrics only cover my torso, arms, and hands, and I had some air activated chemical heaters in my boots, but my butt and legs got chilled, and there was a lot of traffic on I-75 and US-23, so the last two hours were a bit of a death march. I pulled into my garage just after 7pm last night.
This morning my cold has made a resurgence. I don't think I will have much voice for phone calls today at work.
