I am home. This morning, my flight wasn't until noon local time and I had never time shifted myself to local time, so I was up at 6am. I spent hours wandering around and never did figure out how to get outdoors (without taking a taxi). Like the dome cities of science fiction novels, only with more high end retail. I was longing for a normal coney island with a normal waitress to bring me bacon and eggs, but these don't seem to exist in Las Vegas. At least not in the parts I could figure out how to get to. It is good to be back in the normal world.

If you're ever stuck in a Vegas casino again: the trick is to find out which restaurant in the place is open 24-hours. That is typically the standard-issue-diner-type restaurant. Often it can also be identified by the standing "Steak and Eggs Special!"

As for not being able to find your way out—that's just casino architecture at it's finest. If you went outside, how would you gamble? It's the more advanced version of not having clocks or windows, so you don't notice the passage of time.

There were a lot of windows but you couldn't see much through them. The only clock I saw was in my room and it was an irritating TV screen clock that I turned off.

Vegas wants to keep people indoors so thy don't learn about Vegas summers. Keeping them in THEIR casino is even better. One is so no one tells their friends how hot it gets. The other is to maximize acquisition of the money gamblers choose to throw away.

I wasn't going to gamble, because when I tried it before it was boring. But I let my coworkers talk me into trying it again. I sought out an old school slot machine with mechanical things spinning, so I would have something to look at, at least. I won a little jackpot that put me $10 ahead, so I stopped. One of my other coworkers won $2000 and stopped right there too. But few people can do that. I'm sure the house took a whole lot more off of my coworkers, than it paid us.

I'm in that camp, too. I find gambling boring as I worked too hard for it to simply throw it away on things that don't give me something tangible in return (other than a barrel to wear). While my folks lament that changes to the "new" Vegas, I find that nearly all those changes brought in something that would make going tolerable to me (rides, a larger selection of shows, etc.).

In most cases I can find that without going all the way to Vegas though.
