Trick or Treat
Oct. 31st, 2012 07:24 pmFor Halloween this year, I am handing out glow sticks.
I am handing them out already cracked and started. I don't want to burden the parents with more unnecessary plastic objects that their kids are saving. Also, about ten percent of them are duds, and I don't want some kid to be disappointed later. Also, what better time for a kid to have a glow stick going, than while they are trick or treating, out there on the dark streets?
It wasn't very expensive. They cost about 20 cents apiece, in bulk. It is a bit more work. I'm putting each one on its string, and my thumbs are tired from breaking them.
They are a hit. Early in the evening, I gave some to a couple of preschoolers, and when they got back to the sidewalk where their teenage brother was waiting for them, he saw what they had. He immediately came sprinting up to the house himself. "Can I have a glow stick? Can I have a glow stick?" He didn't have a candy bag, though he was dressed as Batman. I don't think he intended to join the candy grab, but a glow stick? That overcame the teenage cool. :) A few minutes ago we got a kid who saw them and started exclaiming, "I NEED one of those! I NEED one of those!" Other kids are waving them around overhead as they bounce down the street. A little girl was so enthralled by the glow stick that she left her candy bag on the porch and her mother had to carry it away for her.
I think we'll have to do this again. Maybe next year I will get some of the glow necklaces. Though from the reviews on Amazon it seems the dud rate is higher with those.
