Interesting article about cargo bikes. As in bicycles, with pedals. The appeal seems to be similar to the Ural. I find myself tempted to get one. Except that they are pretty darned expensive, and I have never seen one here. Still, how cool.

I saw those around in Amsterdam. You saw people transporting all kinds of crazy stuff on bicycles over there. The winner was the dude transporting a quarter-keg of beer on the front rack of a regular bicycle. (Possibly empty, since it was Sunday morning.) Although it was also not uncommon to see people pile a couple of small children in the "wheelbarrow" on the front (helmets? what are those?).

When I go to Amsterdam again I'll bring you one back. ;-)

The other possibility is that you probably know plenty of folks who are skilled at fabbing various things out of bits of tubing, etc. I bet that for a suitable bribe you could probably get someone to build you something, starting with a standard mountain-bike frame, and then construct your own cargo box out of some 1" plywood.

Hmmm. Might be useful for me for going to the grocery store.

I have been thinking that I might get one of the obnoxiously huge jogging stroller that everyone is using for their rug rats these days, and hack it up into a cargo pusher. But with something bicycle-based I can go fast enough to use the streets, instead of hogging the sidewalks like all those self-centered stroller-pushers do.

Hell, maybe I should just get a trailer for the DRZ? I mean, a trailer at the DRZ could pull. Nothing I'd want to do on the highway, but maybe just over surface streets to the grocery, Goodwill, and Home Depot.

Those look cool! You'll be giving rides to all the kids in town. And getting very fit.
