It's alive

The TDM started.

But I don't know why. On Friday night I tried jump starting it, to no avail. Today [personal profile] pi3832 and I changed the spark plugs (which looked really bad), and put more gas in it. (I put gas in it back when it first failed to start, as well, so it wasn't out of gas. But we thought it was worth putting a little more in.) After we did this, we tried again to start it, but still couldn't get it started. [livejournal.com profile] pi3832 went home, and I went out for a little ride on the V-Strom.

Later, another riding buddy stopped by and I was telling him about the TDM. He asked what it sounded like when I tried to start it, so we went out to the garage so he could hear it. It fired right up. WTF?

At least it started.

Other activities of the weekend:

Changed the fork oil and the front brake pads on the V-Strom. Was going to change the rear pads too, but the vendor I bought them from sent the wrong ones.

[livejournal.com profile] pi3832 got the carbs installed in his baby Sabre.

I went to the Ford dealer again and negotiated a price on a new truck. It's the new style with the stupid privacy glass[1], but the extra space behind the seat will be convenient. I'm going to read over the paperwork one last time and call the salesman with my decision in the morning. I think I will just get it; I'm tired of car shopping. I don't want to set foot in any more car dealerships for at least ten years.

[1] I have heard that the reason privacy glass is so popular is because people feel safer if they think no one can see them. I'm sick of seeing people do irrational things because of fear. I want normal windows! Maybe I will have the back window changed, if it's not too expensive.

And the radiator. Twice.
