Aerostich got back to me today with their sizing recommendation. They think I will need a women's size 10 with lengthened legs.
Their method is to send a floor sample of a standard size (without the lengthened legs) for you to try on, and you then send it back to them in trade for the suit in your colors and with your set of alterations. They didn't have a size 10 floor sample, and frankly if a size 10 fits me then their sizes are pretty weird. Their website doesn't have a size chart with measurements, but the guy I talked to had one and read the numbers for a size 10 to me. It sounded good for the bust and waist but the hips would be too small and I suspect it will be too short in the torso. And since they don't even have a size 10 floor sample, I'm having them send me a 12, which I think is more likely to work.
They will lengthen the legs up to 3" total, which can be above the knee or below or both. If they can do 3" above or below the knee it would seem like they could do 6" total, but I know better than to expect reason in that one - they don't take one step outside their guidelines. I probably don't need 6" total, anyway, but I may need more than 3". It depends on what the basic suit is like. They also don't lengthen torsos, no way no how. Best to avoid getting too excited - this may or may not be workable.
