Detroit Motorcycle Show
Jan. 8th, 2006 01:10 amSo,
xtatic1 and
mistrtoad and I went to the motorcycle show today. It was fun but very tiring.
Why do people feel the need to play music at these things? With thousands of people in a huge echoing space, it's louder than hell in there even when they don't have the trials guys doing their thing in the corner. The music doesn't sound good and it makes it hard to stay near the vendors who are playing it.
But even with the noise level, it was fun. I think my two favorite bikes this year were the MV Augusta Brutale, and the KTM 950 Adventure. I keep coming back to that darn KTM, I don't know why it attracts me. I'm not crazy about the orange metal flake paint or square seat. Maybe I feel kinship with it since it's oversized and weird. I talked to the guy who owns that KTM; he's a district rep for KTM. He told me about how it is his company car and he loves it. He says KTM is hiring and I should apply. :-) The Brutale is just wicked, it whispers "I'm a little too dangerous to ever be boring." I bet it would be a nightmare to adjust the valves on that thing.
There's a new 650 Ninja, that I bet will give the SV650 a run for its money, especially amongst the shorter riders who will like the lower seat. But I think
xtatic1 would be happier with the Ninja 250; she just looks so pleased every time she sits on one. When I win the lottery, the first thing I'm going to buy is a Ninja 250 for her. Guess I better go buy some tickets.
I sat on the V-Strom 650 a few more times, trying to decide if I should get a 650 seat for my 1000, not to get closer to the ground (since I can already flat foot it) but to lower the center of gravity and get my head down behind the windshield a bit more. Then a funny thing happened while I was sitting there on the 650 V-Strom. I talked to a guy who was trying to choose between the two, and I answered a bunch of questions about which parts interchange and what is the difference year to year. Then he asked me if I worked for Suzuki? LOL! I talk too much. My throat is raw from yelling over the background noise of the show, all day long.

Hmmm....
Date: 2006-01-08 02:35 pm (UTC)Ride motorcycle as company car?
Talk to folks all day about motorcylces?
Be seen as a knowledgable resource?
Write bits for articles in motorcycle magazines or press releases?
Anyone see any downsides here? ;)
