Downed wire
Jul. 13th, 2016 11:14 amLast night I was in the pool at the Wellness Center when one of the staff came in with an announcement. "Everyone out of the pool! Lightning storm!" So I only got 11 laps.
I emerged into light rain and purple twilight, and rode home on my scooter. As I was passing the neighbor's house I saw sparks from the utility pole between their house and the alley. I banged on their door and got them out to see. The sparks had stopped by then but we could see what looked like a downed wire, despite it being nearly dark. They called the power company, DTE.
This morning, DTE has not yet arrived. But the city has put up barricades and no traffic can go through the alley. In daylight I can see the wire on the ground and singed spots in the grass. No one's power is out on our street, so I suppose this is a low priority in the post-storm repairs. I wonder what that wire is, that it can be down and put out sparks, and not take out the power to any of the houses?
