Baby robins
May. 12th, 2016 06:59 pmEvery time I looked out there over the last several days, the bird was sitting on the nest so I didn't disturb her. But today I noticed she was away, so I took the chance to peer into the nest and found that they are all hatched. So I have missed the chance to see if they hatch all at once or more slowly. They are so young they don't even have feathers, just pink skin and sparse white hairs waiting to grow in. I guess we'll have to wait a few days to see the riotous open-mouthed chicks that are the first visible babies in less accessible nests.
Since I got my look, a thunderstorm has rolled through with heavy rain. The bird sat there through the whole storm, fluffed out to cover the babies. The rain is dwindling now and I suppose there will be plenty of worms in the aftermath.
