So last Tuesday when I was on my way to Tios, I couldn't find my phone anywhere. On Wednesday I looked high and low, and I called it, and still couldn't find it. Well, it turned up. It was in the bottom of the clothes dryer under a load of very wrinkled blue jeans.

Strangely enough, it still worked. The screen looked a little wavy and the paint was missing from the corners, but it fired right up. I called my home phone to test it, and it rang. I listened to my voice mail. Amazing!

Well, Saturday morning a friend called and when I answered the phone, I could hear him but he couldn't hear me. Guess it didn't survive the laundry so well after all.

I would still buy the same phone again if I could. It was a Motorola KRZR and it was four years old. Unfortunately it's no longer available. I went to the Verizon site, made a list of the phones that looked reasonable for my purposes and their prices, and armed with my little list I went over to Best Buy.

It was a relatively quiet day at Best Buy, thank goodness, because I was there for an hour. It turns out that all the phones on the Verizon site are cheaper at Best Buy, but they have very few just-plain-phone phones in stock at the store. They are pushing the smart phones. I don't want a smart phone. You see, I hate phones. I don't want to fiddle with it. I don't want to buy a fancy case. I don't want to have to start carrying a purse just to have someplace to put the dumb thing. I sure don't want to double my monthly bill - I already pay $40/month and that's too much for the small amount of use I get out of it, and my answer to this is not to use it more - I would use it less if I could.

Anyway, I have had two good Motorolas in the past, so I looked for another Motorola. I ended up ordering the Motorola Barrage. It's supposed to be waterproof, submersible to one meter. Hopefully I won't launder it, but you can never be sure.

So when I got home, I had email saying there was a problem with my payment. No huge surprise, I guess. Every day last week I had letters warning me that my credit union is merging with another credit union, and to get enough money out of the ATM to last all weekend, before 5pm Friday because my old ATM card would stop working at that time, and my new one wouldn't work until Monday. I didn't pay with the ATM debit card, I used my credit union Visa, which wasn't supposed to be messed up by this merger stuff, but I'm guessing there were issues there anyways. I called Best Buy and asked them to re-run the card this morning. Hopefully it will go through this time. But it will take another couple days to get the phone.

Just my luck to wash my phone, the same week my credit union does their merger.

Anyway, don't be surprised if I am hard to reach on the phone.
