I tested Instamapper on a trip through OH and WV last weekend. It was not a complete success. The tracking worked great for the trip down on the slab on Friday night.

On Saturday, the tracking only worked intermittently. I am not sure whether this was because I was in and out of cell range, or what. I know the phone should be able to acquire GPS coordinates everywhere. And I think the phone is supposed to save the tracking locations in memory until it comes back into service range again, but either it really doesn't do that, or the phone doesn't have enough room to store them. I don't know how much memory this cheap phone has, or how much of that memory each breadcrumb takes up.

On Sunday, I should have been in cell range almost all the way. But the tracking was intermittent, again, and when I got home the phone was dead, couldn't even get it to boot up.

So, maybe the intermittent tracking I got for Saturday was the dying phone, and had nothing to do with cell service or running out of memory.

The phone is only one week old and though I did carry it around on a motorcycle all weekend, I had it fairly well protected, I don't feel I abused it in any unusual fashion. I'm going to try to take it back. I'll either get another phone just like it, or get a phone with more memory just in case. Need to do more research.

Edited to add: I have been messing with the dead Motorola i425 phone, trying to figure out what the problem is. I think maybe it just doesn't like my chargers. They are Motorola chargers, that plug into mini-USB, but I originally bought them to charge my Verizon KRZR phone. Are there different kinds of Motorola mini-USB chargers? Grrr.
