ConFusion Scavenger Hunt
Dec. 2nd, 2006 11:37 pmSo I have agreed to take charge of a ConFusion scavenger hunt.
We'll have a ribbon for everyone who enters. There will be a couple of different prizes. I'm thinking one prize for the adults, a prize that only kids are eligible for, and a prize that only people who are attending their first ConFusion are eligible for. The adults prize would be a Marriott gift certificate that the person could use towards their hotel bill or for the restaurant. The kids prize would be dealer dollars so they can buy something they like in hucksters. The new fan prize would be membership for next year's ConFusion, and if the other cons would donate them, maybe some memberships to other local cons. This is too late (and things are too tight) to get more than a token contribution from the con budget, so I'll kick in for some of the swag, and if anyone else wants to contribute I won't turn you away. I want the prizes to be highly desireable so people will enter and try hard to compete.
We'll have the deadline for turning in your scorecard, be around midnight on Saturday, and we'll have the winners posted on Sunday morning. The winner would be the person who gets the most items, in case of a tie we'll have a draw, and they can go to Ops to collect their prizes.
Does anyone see any holes in these rules?
Does anyone have ideas for questions? I'm trying to come up with questions that will encourage people to see more parts of the con, get acquainted with each other, and have fun doing it. I'd especially like to get people talking to people older or younger than themselves, and forge connections between new fans and experienced fans.
I'm going to screen comments on this post, so if I decide to use any of the suggested questions, the people who read my journal won't have an unfair advantage due to having already seen the questions. After all I'm hoping some of you will play!
Edit:
I think I'm going just have them answer questions and collect signatures/autographs. Having them collect particular objects only works if I make them all meet me and some particular place/time to be scored, and that's too limiting.
Photographs of the contestants with this or that individual would be great fun, but we can't assume people will have a camera and the ability to make prints while at the con. Though I suppose we could arrange for the quarry to be equipped with a camera. Hmmm...
