I miss Iain
Dec. 14th, 2004 12:26 amI just read an article I would have liked to discuss with him. Over the last year or so this is a topic we discussed several times. The will of the people isn't being played out democratically in the ballot box, it's being played out in the behavior of large corporations. The shareholders who should ultimately have control over these corporations are large pension funds, and the owners of those pension funds are the people. We're the voters, but we don't know what's going on, we don't vote, and so the corporations do things in the name of shareholder value, that would horrify us as shareholders if we only knew. We need to figure out how all of us tiny little shareholders can somehow put our hands on this lever. This article has an interesting take on it.
I have never moved any of my 401Ks from the companies I used to work for in the past. Maybe it's time to move them, and put the money into one of these socially responsible funds. Iain would have liked that.
