Truck shopping
Jul. 23rd, 2004 10:22 amAfter a month of waffling, I decided to go test drive the F150 I was looking at, and assuming the test drive went well I would just buy it and be done with it.
I went out to the car dealer and it's gone. There aren't any more. It was the Heritage model. A couple of people have been trying to convince me I want the new version instead, but frankly, I liked the Heritage model better. The new ones all have the extra doors and windows in the back (with their attendant blind spots) even though there aren't any seats back there, they are all automatics, and they're several thousand dollars more expensive. Basically what Ford has done, is dump the old base model and make the old mid-level model the new base. I would have to pay thousands of dollars more, for options I either don't care about or actively dislike. Grr.
So I went back to the Toyota dealer and test drove a Tundra. They didn't have any of the plainer models I am interested in, but at least they can order them. Maybe I will buy a Toyota.
The Ford dealer also has a 2003 on the used car side that is similar to the 2004 I wanted. They were closing when I saw it, but I will go talk to them about it this weekend.
