Returned from a successful weekend at ConFusion. I had no duties except for an AASFA board meeting; I did not even throw a room party this year.

I had a heck of a time getting to the hotel. It's 60 miles from here to there, all on the interstate, but it took three hours due to the stop and go traffic. There was a lot of snow and ice but it didn't seem like it should be that bad; there were very few cars in the ditches. I heard later that several of the local freeways were closed later that evening, as the ice got worse and more accidents blocked them.

The new hotel is very nice. It was so nice that I was afraid the staff would be uncooperative and hostile, but they were cheerful, helpful, and professional. Very good.

The events of the convention were well attended. There were crowds everywhere I went, which is good. It was very successful and the only complaints I heard were the usual well worn ones from the same mouths. The concom did a good job.

I attended all the parties, and for the first time in many years I spent a lot of time in consuite. It was clean and welcoming and full of fun people.

We need to find a way to lure younger fen into the room party scene. I was an informal gatherer of info for the party judging, and I found no one under 20 who had an opinion about room parties that they could be coaxed into sharing. When asked about the parties they mostly gave me a deer in headlights look and mumbled about being under 21 and therefore not welcome at parties. How can we change this belief?
